Dogs have it easy!

This is my 10 month old boxer puppy Harley Quinn. Boy, is her life hard! She was not feeling well, so my daughter decided to tuck her in for the night. She even gave Harley her own pillow to sleep on. This bed was an extra mattress that our guest slept on. When they left Harley thought it was hers.
This week has been a sick week for me and my family. I wish someone would tuck me in and let me sleep for days. Moms don't have it that easy. When I saw this picture, it cheered me up. I hope it cheers you up too. Have a great week!

This year we thought we would have more fun with our graphics and make them with 2 colors instead of 1. You will also have the option to have the vinyl graphic in a single color.

Family Momories Christmas Ball

Some of our ideas come from our customers. I just LOVE this idea. They took a clear Christmas ball ornament and filled it with paper that has memories on it from the whole year. Then they added the vinyl on the ball. To make it look even more adorable, ribbon was added to the top. This will be something my family will do this year. Years down the road, you can pull this ornament out and read the fun things you did as a family.

Welcome Sign with Holidays and Seasons

When I was at my parents house last week, my Dad and I worked on cutting out some fun new kits. I have been wanting to make a welcome sign with seasons that change out for a long time now. I had the design in my head, I just needed to make it. I told my Dad what I wanted and he got to work cutting it out for me. Here is my end result.

This is the winter tiles. We are in the process of making all different holidays and seasons. I can't wait to show them off.

Clock

This was a fun project that I did in a few hours. I could have done it in less than an hour if I did not use the crackle medium. Most of the time was letting the paint dry.

Start out with an 8x8 board 1/4 inch thick. I used a MDF board.

1. Paint the board. I wanted a dark color under my white so when it crackled I could see it.

You can get the crackle medium at your local home store. I got mine at Home Depot in the paint department. This stuff goes a long ways.

2. Paint the crackle on. Let it dry.
3. Paint your board with your top color. I used Vermont cream (white) from home depot.

I don't know why this picture is sideways.
4. Turn your board over when the top paint is dry, and mark an X from corner to corner to find your middle spot. My board is an 8x8, but I still wanted an exact measurement.
5. Drill a small hole in the board for a pilot hole.

6. With a larger drill bit, drill a hole from the front to the back. I used a 5/16 drill bit for the clock shaft I am using.

7. Place the vinyl stencil on the board matching up the predrill hole with the vinyl stencil hole.

8. Paint the inside of the vinyl with the paint you used for the under coat. Pull off the stencil up before the paint drys completely. The paint is latex paint, and you don't want the stencil pulling up your design.

9. Now you are ready for the clock parts. Follow in the instructions that come with the clock kit. I got my clock kit from Klockit.com. I used motor 10082 and hands number 66761

Christmas Tree Word Art

Here is a fun project to do for Super Saturday. I just want to thank my sister-in-law Karen for making this graphic and letting us have it. You are awesome! This fun graphic was put on a board to hang, but you can put it on a tile, glass block, tin, wood...

NOTE: When you order any vinyl that you wish to put on a board to hang, please make a note to us under "Special Instructions" so that we will know to cut the graphic a little shorter to allow for the holes and hanging otherwise the graphic may be too large.

This is an 8x8 MDF board that is 1/4 inch thick. You can cut your own board, or you can purchase MDF boards through our website vinylgiftsandmore.com.

Apply the vinyl to the board. The nice thing about our vinyl is that we use a clear transfer tape so you can see your graphic through the tape and that way you can see where to place it on your board. (Note: We off-set the graphic to allow for hanging but you can center the graphic for your 8"x8" wood to use with an easel.)

Measure your holes (double check your measurements, or you will end up with 3 holes like me. :) and use a drill to drill your holes. I put my holes 2 inches from the ends.

Tape the ends of your ribbon so you can put them through the holes. Tie a bow and hang.

Old Window

When I was on vacation this month, I asked my father in law if he knew of any old windows. He is a farmer and he has lots of out buildings on his properties. He said he pulled an old window and put it in the shed and told me I could have it. :) I have always wanted an old window. My husband had the rolled eyes look, but he let me take it with us on our trip. :) When I got home, I thought I knew what I wanted to do with it, but it didn't fit the room. So I changed my plan. I added fun vinyl to it and hung it in my office. I just love vinyl! Corn Husk Dolls

I am the girls camp leader for my church. I LOVE girls camp. I love that I can act goofie and burst into song at anytime, and it is normal at girls camp. This year we did some FUN crafts. One of our crafts was corn husk dolls. The girls had a great time making them, and they all turned out lovely!

When I look at this picture all I can think about is the movie Music Man. I know that sounds weird but I think of the song where all the ladies are around singing "Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little Cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more."

Here are the written instructions. I was excited when I was handed this to put on my blog.

The corn husks were free from our local grocery store. Just soak them in water for awhile before you start the project. Also the little baskets on the girls arms are from factorycraftdirect.com.

How to make:
1. Take a picture frame and remove all the backing.
2. Glue the glass to the picture frame with strong craft glue. Let dry
3. Put your favorite vinyl on the front of the glass.

I have had bad luck all day. My car broke down on the side of a freeway, we had a mean and nasty tow truck driver that charged us a crazy amount, and I have been stuck in a car with 3 screaming children for the last 5 hours waiting on family to tow us home. The truck driver did drop our suburban off right infront of the Idaho Falls LDS temple, so at least we get to stare at something beautiful. Picture Edditing

I was at park day (women bring kids to the park so they can talk with other women) a month ago and my friend whips out her calender for the summer. She said she wanted to plan fun things for the kids to do this summer. The first thing she wanted to do was to have a picture and movie contest. The kids will learn to take pictures and submit one for the contest. They can also make a movie. The kids all thought that was a great idea. Today was the day they had to submit their photos. I was at park day today, and I asked if anyone edited their photos with their kids. All of them said it would be too hard to do that. I told them about Picnik.com. It is so easy to edit your photos with this FREE online program.

My 6 year old took this picture and edited it. I did show him some fun things to do with it. We used the "crop button" and made it to be a 4x6 photo. If you are going to send your pictures to a photo lab you need to make sure you crop it to a normal printing size. Because the picture was a little fuzzy (6 year olds are not steady with the camera) we cropped it down to only one flower. Then we just played with it. If he didn't like the look of the picture, then he would back up and try something new.

This was taken by my 4 year old. I was holding the background for her. I was just hoping she was steady and getting their bodies. Again we cropped this photo and then added a pink vignette around the edges. She wanted to add the crowns and a butterfly. My husband just informed me that Froofie is a boy, but today froofie is a girl. :)

This is our new puppy Harley Quinn. We call her Harley. She is a boxer, and we love her, well sometimes. Not at 3:30 in the morning when she wakes us up to go pee. At least she wakes us up. My husband is teaching her tricks, and this is one of them. She can stands up for a long time. Good thing, because my 8 year old is not that fast with the camera.

With this picture we turned it sepia tone. Then added some fun stickers they had on the website.

My kids were very happy how they turned out. Not bad for a 4,6 and 8 year old.

Good use of a board

Another great thing about using a board for the background is that you can paint both sides, therefore you can use both sides for graphics. You can have different seasons, or different sayings, so you can change them throughout the year. My mom loves the 8x8 board size. She thinks it is the perfect size.

The fun thing about putting vinyl on boards, is that you choose what color you want as a background. Have fun with it. Most of my boards are brick red, or cream. Boring! I did a craft with my friend and she had the wildest colors and I thought it was going to turn out ugly, and it turned out to be my favorite.

Tortillas

I know this is not a craft, but I had to share this yummy recipe. This tortilla recipe is easy to make, and my family loves it. I have used it for sandwich wraps, and last night we had them for fajitas. You will never go back to store bought tortillas again.

Tortilla Recipe

2 1/2 cups flour (wheat or white)

1/4 cup shortening (I use butter flavor)

1 tsp salt

I put these ingredients in a kitchen aid mixer on med speed until they are well blended. I let it mix for a few minutes.

Add:

3/4 cup Boiling water

Mix the flour mixture and the water together until dough forms.

1. Separate dough into golf ball size balls.

2. Spray Pam on the counter.

3. Roll out one ball at a time into a circle on the greased surface. (my tortilla are not always perfect and that is ok.)

4. Heat skillet on high

5. Put tortilla on the hot skillet and cook both sides until lightly browned. (Do not grease the skillet)

I promise you will love them!

Vinyl on Wood

A lot of vinyl we sell goes on tiles. Tile is nice and quick, but tile may not come in the size or color you need. That is where wood comes in. They make a fabulous wood product called MDF. You can find it at almost all lumber stores. It comes in different thicknesses. I love the 1/4 inch for tiles, and I use the 1/2 inch for signs. The nice thing about MDF is that is doesn't warp. You can also have it cut for you at your lumber store. My mom has been really busy making signs. All of these vinyl designs will be on our website.

This one looks so much like a tile and it is wood. Love it! The nice thing about wood is that it ships well and doesn't brake.

I just love this sign. I wish I had a little cowboy in my house. My kids are all about computers and nerdy things. :)

Road Trip

My parents went on a road trip from Idaho to New York and then back. . The trip lasted over 2 weeks, and it is amazing what they packed in those days. I am glad they are back because my mom is over the website, and we have lots of new items that will be posted shortly. Night Stand Make Over

I bought this night stand for 2 dollars. It is solid wood and it had minor problems. The door did not latch and it had some dings. There were two in the store and I only got one. I am kicking myself now that I didn't get the other one. I brought it home 2 weeks before I was moving. So I have had it in my house for over 6 months now. For the last 2 months it has been our TV stand. My husband and I made an entertainment center for our home (pictures soon to come), so we didn't need this stand anymore. For the last 2 months I have been thinking what I wanted to do with it. I decided I still wanted a night stand, but I didn't like the door. I took the door off, and wood puttied the holes. Then I painted it white (Vermont Cream from Home Depot) I sanded the edges and put some stain on it. I love the rustic country look. I found these cute baskets at Walmart. They were only 5.00 each. The total cost of everything was 12.00. Can't beat that!

Teacher Gift

Did this school year even happen? It seems like it just started and now it is ending. My kids are growing up way too fast. It is that time where you have to think of something to give your child's teacher. Garden

I love to garden. My grandfather was a farmer, my dad grew up farming, and I guess he passed the gene to me. I don't have a farm (yet), but I can sure plant me some yummy produce. I just moved in my house 4 months ago. I have many projects still not done, but I had to get my garden in. Where I live you can start planting the cold crops in February, and everything else in March. Let me show you how I made my rasied beds.

I bought (2) 4x4 redwood post. This will make 3 boxes. I cut them down to 13 inches long.

I also bought 2x4's and 2x6's. I had them cut down to length at the lumber store. Have it cut to the size you want your box.

I put the 2x4 on the top, and the 2x6 on the bottom. There will be 3-4 inches of the 4x4 left so you can put it in the ground.

This was my birthday present from my husband. I am easy to please. :) This is horse manure that has been sitting over the winter. You want it almost like dirt so it does not burn your plants. I used this and soil I got in a bag and mixed it together. If you were wondering, those are curtains holding the manure in. I forgot a tarp and this was in my car ready to go to a thrift shop, and they worked great. They are not going to a thrift shop anymore.

I was told this is good stuff. Bone and Blood meal. The package said it is not made from cow, so where did they get it from??? A little goes a long way.

This was a picture of my garden today. The first planter does not have anything in it yet. I have lots of plans for it. You don't always have to use wood for your planters. If you look in the back, I used my left over bricks from my fireplace to make a planter.

The best thing for tomatoes is tomatoe food. It doubles or triples the yeild. I get mine from an online catalog, but I hear you can use rose plant food.

These barrels were in my front yard, and I didn't like the look of them there, so I moved them to my back yard and planted tomotoes in them. They are doing really well. I planted 11 plants, and I am the only one that likes tomatoes in my home. I guess I will be canning a lot and giving lots to neighbors.

I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Easter. It has been lots of fun around our house today. The Easter bunny came last night, and the kids got candy and bubbles. By the time I ~~woke up~~ got out of bed all the candy and chocolate was consumed by my three kids. Piggy! Piggies! I guess they are doing me a favor and taking all the calories from me. We also live next to a Navy base, and they have the best Easter egg hunts and carnivals. My kids are bouncing off the walls. This year we decided to have the Easter bunny come early, so we can focus Sunday on the true meaning of Easter. We have some fun activities we are doing tomorrow to talk about Christ.

I made this cute little sign over a month ago, and I just got around to taking a picture of it. I have been a little busy. This sign was made with 1/4 inch MDF board. I used vinyl as a stencil and then I painted it. When the paint was dry, I pulled the vinyl off and I got this really cute little sign.

Early Mother's Day Gift To Me

My husband and I got married in the Spokane Washington LDS Temple. It is a pretty little mini temple that my brothers built, and I also got to go to the dedication in the temple. So it has lots of meaning to me. I really wanted a picture of it, but not an ordinary picture of it. I wanted it to be big and pretty and something I would love in my home. I really liked the distressed picture look with the chunky frame. I searched the web and I found an awesome website LDSStock.COM that had my picture. They also had the best price. I was stalking this picture for a few months. I have a hard time buying things, but I really wanted a picture of the temple in my home. So I splurged and I am SO HAPPY I did. I love my picture. When you walk into my house you look down my hallway. I put my picture at the end of the hallway so my family can see the temple every time they come in. It looks so much better in person. And of coarse I had to put vinyl above it. This vinyl will be on our website this week.

No Soliciting Signs

My husband and I just bought our first home a few months ago. We bought a house that was older and foreclosed on, but it is right in the middle of a really nice neighbor hood. I feel like we are the Clampett's moving to this neighborhood. It is not Beverley Hills by any means, but it is nice for our small town. We rented for 4 years only a block away, and we could count on one hand how many times we had a solicitor. In the few months we have lived here, I have lost track of how many solicitors have been here. I hate saying sorry, not today, maybe someday, No...So I made a sign. Signs are nice! Well, except for my brother's. He had me make him a sign that says, "Solicitors will be shot, and survivors will be shot again."

He lives in Utah, and I guess they have lots of solicitors there.

Here is the one I made for my home.

I made this one for a friend. They didn't want a bow, so I just made a nail hole in the board and stuck a nail in it and hammered it in the stucco. It worked well.

We are selling these (4x7.5) signs for $8.00 each without the bow and $10.00 with the bow. Vinyl only will be $4.00 each. Right now my mother is very busy, and she is the one that takes care of getting things on the website. Welcome Blocks with Holiday Blocks

I have thought about this project for a few years now. I have tons of projects in my head, but it is like I have to have the planets and stars to all align before I get them done. By the time I get it done, everyone and their dog has already thought of it. :) This one is fun and the kids love it. My kids are already playing with this set.

I started out with a 2x3 board. I cut it with my chop saw in blocks that are 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 2. It makes a perfect square.
Paint the blocks.

Apply the vinyl after the paint is dry.

The "O" in welcome will change with different holidays.

I placed the vinyl on both sides of the blocks. This way I have less blocks to paint, make and store. I hope you like it. We are going to start selling kits again. So this kit will be for sale on our website next week. As always, if you have wood, you can just buy the vinyl.

It is spring brake for my kids. They have been home all week, and they are a little bored. They had a Phineas and Ferb marathon one day. We went to the park and played with some friends another. I think we have played the game Sorry about a million times. My son has asked to do some craft project almost everyday. Today, I said we can. We did a fun craft for their room. Subway art is very popular right now. I thought we would do some subway art for their room above their dressers. Let me walk you through what we did.

This is my oldest child. He is the one that has been asking me to do crafts. I had my husband cut MDF board 1/4 inch thick 12x12 inches. You can also have you local home store cut it for you. I just had extra wood at home. Paint your board with craft paint. My son loves comics, so he read comics when he was letting the paint dry.

This is son # 2. He loves green. Can you tell? He is 6. I would say 6 years old is probably a little young for this project.

This is the vinyl stencil we will be using. Rub the top of it with something hard like a credit card. Then peel the backing off.

Place your vinyl stencil on the wood. Rub the stencil down with something hard.

Peel the top plastic cover off. The stencil should stay. If not, put the top cover back down and rub some more.

Paint, paint, paint. Just be careful not to go out of the lines.

This is what it looks like when it is all painted. When it is dry, peel the stencil off.

This was the final result. Lots of fun!

This is sons #2 board. I actually really like the stencil on the green. We didn't even need to paint the board. But we did.

He had a great time painting.

Then I made one for a birthday party my daughter is going to next week. Her best friend is turning 4. I called his mom to get all of his favorite things.
In the next few weeks we will have some more fun stencils for you. We are going to come out with seasons, and holidays. This is a great project for Super Saturday, YW, family reunions, FHE... We also will be doing custom work.

PS. If you see any miss spelled words, or grammar errors I am sorry. I get a phone call from my mom every time I post, because I didn't spell something right or I used wrong grammar. It is 11:15 at night. I am a little tired, and the spell checker is broken. :)

Fun Rustic Shelf

I have been trying to find something to fill up my wall in my living room. I saw this fun shelf at Faded Country and I knew I had to make it. I love the blogging world. There are so many fun things to make!

Here is my shelf project.

Materials:

(1) 1x4x8 (cut the board in half so the wood is 4 feet long) (I had Home Depot cut my boards)

(1) 1x6x8 (Cut the board in half so the wood is 4 feet long)

Trim for top and bottom.

Wood Glue

nails (I used my brad nailer)

Something to hang it to the wall

Calking

Opps! Just imagine the picture turned.

After I had the trim on, I put calking on the trim and in the nail holes. Let it dry.

To get the distresed look, sand the board down so the stain shines through. I actually put extra stain on the white paint to give it more of an antique look.

The hardest part of this shelf was the trim. I have a hard time thinking about angles and putting them together. I went through a lot of trim to get it right. My husband does well at the angles, but I wanted to do it all by myself. If I can do it, anyone can. My husband did help me hang it.

Planter Box Improvement

I was on the lookout for something I could use to put greenery in for the top of my piano. I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Our nearest craft store is 1 1/2 hours away. With gas prices so high, and me driving a suburban I knew I wouldn't be getting out of my town anytime soon. I went to our only craft store in town, (Walmart) and there was nothing. They didn't even have greenery.

This weekend my kids helped me weed my flower bed for 2 hours so I took them to the dollar store. I saw a plastic planter box there that had some fun design on it. Then the light bulb went off. I can use this planter box as my decorative piece for my piano.

This fun planter cost $1.00. It is actually very sturdy.

I went to Walmart and picked out this fun spray paint. It bonds to plastic really well. I sprayed my planter and let it dry.

I put a floral green sponge thing at the bottom of the box and stuck in some ivy. This ivy was used in my wedding 10 years ago. It is a little dusty, but I thought it turned out great, and it cost less than 5.00 to make.

Knotted Headband

I came across a fun cute head band the other day on You Seriously Made That. I saw that it was crocheted and then I said, "Well it is cute, but all I know how to crochet is a huge long chain." Then I read on. All you need to know is how to make a chain and opperate a glue gun and you can make this cute headband. This is my kind of headband. Simple, easy and cute! It took me less than 15 min to make it. I made one for my 3 year old, but she doesn't want to match her mommy.

You know how hard it is to take a picture of your head. I had to go outside to get the right light, and neighbors that drove by stared at me. They were probably thinking, what in the heck is she doing taking a picture of her head. Do you see any grey hairs? I am turning 31 tomorrow and I am starting to get grey hairs.

Valentine's day has been extended over a week at our home. Now that the day is here, I am ready to move on. Last week we made cards, treats, had a preschool V-day party, had a 1st grade V-day party, and now today my oldest is having a party at school. My kids have been on a sugar rush for the last week. With all the craziness in my home, I wanted to start decorating my little girls room.

I LOVE flowers. LOVE THEM!!! LOVE THEM!!! I love to craft, quilt, cook, yada yada yada, but my most favorite thing to do is garden. I even like pulling weeds. I think it is in my blood. My Dad has a nice vegetable garden. My Grandpa had the best garden, and my maternal grandma has the best green thumb ever. My mom on the other hand, did not take after her mother. She hates to garden. She kills everything, ok maybe not everything. She left the gardening to my father and myself. Anyways, back to the flowers. I wanted to make my daughter's room into a garden like room. This week I put flowers up. Now she wants butterflies all over. My son suggested that we need caterpillars and bees buzzing all around. Leave it to a 6 year old to come up with that.

I made the flower graphic to match her quilt that I made. We will have this flower pattern for vinyl on our website soon.

The flowers look a little red in this picture, but they are lipstick pink. It is amazing how vinyl can transform a room.

Valentine's Day Cards and PDF

This year I decided that we will have more fun with Valentine's Day. I thought the first thing we will do is make homemade valentine cards. Tonight is Monday, and in our Church Monday is a special night for families. We call it FHE (Family Home Evening) We sing songs, have prayers, give a lesson, and have an activity. This was our family activity and the kids had a blast.

This was the end result.

These are my older boys. Well, they are not that old, but they seem old to me. :) I think they spent 20 minutes just on the first card. I told them they have 29 to go, so they should speed it up. They decided that they will do 10 tonight, and 10 each night until they are done. I didn't mind, because it keeps them busy.. We are also going to attach a lollipop to each card.

My little daughter went to a birthday party this morning. I wanted to give something different than the usual toy, and the real reason is I didn't have time to shop. :) So I made this sign in less than 20 minutes. It is really easy to do, and it is so cute. My daughters friend LOVED it. My daughter loved it, so now she thinks I need to make her one too.

How to make:

-I cut a board 7x9. (I used MDF board because it does not warp) You can have your local lumber store cut the wood for you.

-I drilled 2 holes in the top

-Paint the board with craft paint (I find my paint at walmart.) Let the paint dry

-Apply the back ground vinyl letter first (O is shown)

-Apply the name and boarder vinyl on top of the letter

-Put ribbon in the holes and make a bow to hang

Dining Room

I have lived in 7 homes in the last 10 years. It takes me about a month to get everything organized and settled in. I have been in my new home for over a month now, and I am still staring at blank walls. My style seems to have changed and all my decorations just don't fit my new home.

I have a little secret, I have been so busy making vinyl for everyone else that I didn't make it for myself. I have been often asked why I don't have vinyl in my home and I usually give this answer; plumbers have leaky pipes, builders homes are unfinished, and vinyl cutter people (what ever we are called) do not have vinyl in their homes.

Now that I have my own home, I am taking time to put vinyl in my home. I want my house to look cute too. :) The first project I have worked on is one wall in my dining room.

Yes, my plates say EAT... STARVE My first thoughts were Be Grateful, Be Thankful, and somwhere from these nice sweet words I went to Eat, Starve. I must of just had dinner with my picky child, and this is where my thoughts went to and it stuck.

This is the close up. I used beige vinyl on my red plate. I got these fun square plates from Walmart for $2.00 apiece. I purchased the plate holder at Michael's for about $8.00.

This is a fun idea, I purchased these 10x13 picture frames from Walmart for 5.00 each. I took the back off of them and I glued the glass to the frame with silicone. You can use any strong glue. I don't think I would use hot glue just because it can get brittle and and glass can pop out and break. Then I put vinyl right on the outside of the glass and I really like the way these turned out.

My Daughter's Quilt

I LOVE quilting. I have not quilted in 8 years. That is how old my oldest child is. So when the kids came, the quilting went bye bye. Laundry, dishes, diapers took its place. My fabulous mom took my kids for 2 weeks this summer and the whole time they were gone I quilted. It was like I was doing something for me again, even though the quilt was for my child. I saw this amazing quilt on Piece n Quilt. The link is here http://piecenquilt.blogspot.com/2010/04/vernas-quilt-tutorial.html I knew I had to make it. It was really simple to make and I learned how to applique.

This is the quilt I made for my 3 year old daughter. It was quilted by my cousin at Quilts-n-More.He did an awesome job and he was really quick. They also did my binding which I hate doing. House Remodel "Living Room"

My husband and I have been married 10 years, and most of that time we were poor college students with young children. We have lived in single wide trailers, apartments, home rentals... You got the idea. When I was a little girl I dreamed of having my own home and making it mine. I still remember my favorite thing was to go through the JC Penny and Pottery Barn catalogs and clip out house pictures and put them in my folder. Well, I finally got my childhood dream and got my own home. We ended up getting a forcloser because it was more affordable. We have saved up so we could gut the whole house and make it ours. Let me tell you it has been a long, tuff, worthwhile, crazy, fun, HARD journey. Gutting a house is not easy work, and it takes a lot longer than you think. It also cost a LOT more than you plan. Home Depot really is our home. Everyone knows us there, and they even know our kids names.

Our house was YELLOW inside. I love yellow, but it was a bright yellow, and it was too overbearing. They also had carpet that pets lived on, and it smelled really bad so it had to go. The ceiling fan was white with no light on it. We wanted a fan with a light. We also had popcorn ceilings in every room. I was the lucky one to scrape it all. White stuff came out of me for days. :)

We ripped out the carpet and the base boards. We took off the face plates to the outlets. This is a picture of our wall half painted. You can tell the yellow is still at the top.

I painted the top of my room with a tanish yellow and the bottom 36 inches I painted with a creamy white. I thought I wanted ultra pure white, but I was wrong. I got a pretty white called Vermont Cream (Home Depot Color). I painted my ceilings with it too.

We put chair rail up 36-37 inches from the floor. I painted it the same color as my white wall. Soon I will put more molding up, but I have other rooms to do first. We also turned all of our power off and then we changed the outlets to white. This was actually really fun for me. I learned how to change my outlets. When everything was painted we put in our wood floors. We actually used solid strandwoven bamboo. We got them at Ifloors.com. If you are interested in our floors contact me and I will let you know all about them. We love them.

This is the fun part. We moved in our furniture. I have not decorated the walls yet because everything is still in boxes, but I can't wait to do that. We also have to put our baseboards in. I am hoping to get those painted today and put in tonight. One step at a time. I found my curtains at walmart and hung them with a decorative rod. The pillows on my couch I made when we were in college. I am not in love with the new rug I got. I think I will take it out and replace it with something else. My ceiling fan is actually one of my favorite things in my new house. My husband found them and ordered them from Lowes.

This is my living room, and we gutted the whole house, so I will have lots of pictures to come.

My really good friend wanted this saying on a tile, and it happened to be the same saying that I wanted on a tile. So I made this up, and she took the picture and here it is. We actually have this graphic on our website that goes on a board, but we both wanted it on a tile, so I made it again so it can go on a tile.

I wish I could post more fun craft ideas but I have been moving. Actually my husband and I have been flipping a house for ourselves these last few weeks. I have been taking pictures step by step so I will post them in January when my life calms down a little. Next week I will be actually moving. This is my 7th move in 10 years. You would think we were military or something. We have rented for years, and finally I get my own home.

My mom has been running vinylgiftsandmore.com and she does a fabulous job. My sister-in-law has been helping out with special orders. They both are wonderful.

Birthday Plate

I have wanted to make a birthday plate for my kids for at least 2 years. My Mother-in-law had a "You are Special" plate and I thought that was cool. Birthdays are big in my family. My husband thinks I am crazy, but birthdays are my favorite holiday. My kids don't get many gifts, but they sure get the decorations and fun.
Ok, to the fun stuff! I found this awesome paint called "Pebeo Porecelaine 150 Ceramic Paint". You can paint it on tile, porcelain, metal... and then you bake it on and it stays forever. You can even dishwasher it. It is a little pricey. (about $5.00 a jar plus shipping for each color) I could not decide on a color. That is why it has taken me 2 years to do this. Not kidding. I am a penny pincher. So the other day I found this cool stuff in marker form, ( HURRAY!!!) and it was less money. I found it here. They have great prices, and their shipping is amazing. My kids saw my plate, and they are all excited to make their own for dinner time. I really didn't plan on that, but why not.

Items needed:
*Plate- Glass, porcelain.. (I found mine at the dollar store)
*Porecelaine 150 paint or makers
*Vinyl Stencil
*Oven

How to:
I made a stencil with vinyl and placed it on my plate. I just painted the plate and then removed the vinyl. Try to remove the vinyl when it is wet, because when it dries the vinyl will take some of the paint with it. I had to touch up my letters. I added extra touches to my plate like sprinkles on my cupcake, and outlining everything. I think I went a little overboard with polka dots. You don't even need a stencil, but I am not that good free handing it, so it was a must for me. After you are done with the design, you let it set for 24 hours. Than you bake it in a oven. The directions are right on the pen. Really simple, and the crafts are endless with these cool pens.

Cupboard Door Makeover

Sorry I did not post these instructions on Monday. I have come down with the flu/cold this week. I hear it is going around everywhere. Not fun! So I found my pictures. Actually my husband put them in a file and didn't tell me. He likes to organize me, and then I can't find anything.

This is the old cupboard door that I started with. Sand it down so that the old stain is gone and you are left with just wood.

I filled in the handle holes with wood putty. Make sure you find a wood putty that you can stain. Fill the hole and then let it dry. Sand it down flat. I had to repeat this 2 times, because the first time my putty sank in the hole and left an indent.

I used a stain plus a polyurethane so I didn't have lot of steps. Follow the instructions on the back. I put two coats on my board.

This is what it looked like after one coat. It was too shiny for me so after all my coats were on and dried, I sanded the edges. I am one that likes the sanded edges look.

The final steps are:

1. Put 2 hangers on the back. I actually used screw in hanger hooks on each side. My door is very heavy so I wanted to make sure the hangers on the back would hold it up.

2, Put the vinyl on.

3. Put the hooks on the front. I picked my hooks up at Walmart. The screws were too long, so I bought some smaller screws at the hardware store. I also pre drilled the holes with a drill bit.

I had taken tons of pictures of my step by step process in making this project, and all of my pictures disappeared. I have a lovc hate relationship with my computer. Bummer! Maybe they will reappear and I can show you them on Monday. At least on Monday I will tell how I made an old looking cupboard door into this modern key chain/backpack/purse/coat holder. Finished Wagon

Mirror Saying

In my church we have girls camp every year for 12-18 year old girls. My calling is to be camp leader for my ward. I love camp! I love having fun and feeling the spirit at the same time. This year our stake is giving mirrors to the Youth Camp Leaders and this is the quote they are putting on the mirrors. I loved how it came out so I decided I wanted to share this with my readers. We will have this quote on our site by the end of this week.

Red Wagon

I have had great memories in a back of a wagon. I am the youngest of 5 kids, so I was hauled everywhere in a wagon. Some of my fondest memories was where my older brother would pack up a lunch and take the younger kids on a wagon ride and have a picnic by our home. I was just at a family reunion and my mom brought a wagon, and the kids had a blast hauling each other everywhere in it.

I got a phone call the other day from a cute couple in my church. They have one child, and now their first grandchild. They have a wagon they had for their son that got all rusted. So they decided to fix up the old wagon for their granddaughter. They painted it red, and they wanted to add their granddaughter's name and a cute saying. They brought it over to me to do it. I was a little nervous to do it, but vinyl saved me. I used vinyl as a stencil and painted it so it would be more kid proof. I just love the saying that was put on the back. That was the grandpa's idea. I just love grandparents!!!

New Family Chore Chart "B"

The Family Chore chart is very popular so we decided to come up with a new way to display the names. This is called the Family Chore Chart "B" on our website. This vinyl will be available June 18, 2010 for purchase. Instead of having the names listed and the Done at the end of the board, this board has each name with a To do and a Done under it. This is an 8x24 inch board and it will only display 4 names or less.

Twins Baby Room

Monogram Fits a 6x6 tile or 8x8 glass block

Last Minute Teacher Gift

Here is a fun quick gift idea. I have been busy with kids, church, school and life that I forgot that I needed to make teachers gifts for the end of the school year. I remembered years ago that I use to make these cute cans and give them away for gifts. They are great for last minute and everyone loves them. I showed my friend how to make them, and now she is going to make one for her husband on Father's day.

Supplies you need:
1. (1) can that has a pop top on top and a normal ridge on the bottom. (Dole fruit cans are the best for this. Campbell's soup cans have a pop top but they changed the bottom of their cans so they are rounded and you can use them.)

2. Safety can opener (You can find these at Walmart or Kmart) (You have to use the safety can opener because it cuts it in a way that you can glue the bottom back on.)

3. Scrap booking paper, Ribbons, any decoration you like to decorate the outside of the can.

4. Strong glue and double sided tape (the tape is for putting on the scrap book paper but you can you glue too.)

5. Fun things to fill the can. (I used chocolates and a gift card to fill mine, but you can fill it with anything. If you are making one for your husband on Father's day you can stick a tie in it.)

How to make:

1. Cut the bottom of the can off with the safety can opener. Empty the food out of the can. Clean the clean with soap and water and dry it with a towel. Take the label off the can too.

2. Decorate the outside of the can. I used scrap booking paper and stamps. You can use what ever you like.

3. Fill the can full of fun stuff

4. Glue the bottom of the can back on with strong glue. I ended up using a glue gun.

5. It is now ready to give.

Freedom Vinyl

I can't believe it is already June. Today is the last day of school for my kids. I am actually really excited to have them home! I might not be saying the same thing next week. :) Time is going by so fast so I thought it would be a great time to start posting some patriotic crafts. This freedom vinyl is on a 6x6 tile. Let it Snow Vinyl

I know it is June, and we are praying for sun not snow, but I wanted to show these cute little tiles. This vinyl is shown on a bathroom 6x6 tile that we purchased for .38 cents. Got to love that price. This would be a great gift for a neighbor or friend during the winter season. It would also be a fun craft to do at a Super Saturday. You could put it on a wood block and put a ribbon around it and it would be adorable.

Happy Memorial Day

I love my country. I love freedom. Memorial day is a special day, and I want to thank all of those who have served our country and those who are still serving our country. I have many family members who served in the military and I grateful for them. I live in a town where we have a Navy base. I always get a proud feeling every time I go on the base. Today the base was full of American flags. It was an awesome sight!

Super Saturday crafting season is coming up fast and it is time to start thinking about craft ideas for the big craft day. This is a fun and inexpensive craft idea. You can put this graphic on a tile, wood block, sign, glass block.... It is such a fun graphic that it would look great on anything. We have it shown on a 6 inch tile in black, but it would look great in red, green or gold. You can order this vinyl as a negative (where we take out the letters and the tree), or you can order just the vinyl letters.

You can pick up a bathroom 6 inch tile from your local home store for .35 cents and the graphic is 5.00. So for less than $6.00 you can have a fabulous gift.

Family Chore Chart

My kids have been begging me for over a year now for a chore chart. (I know that is weird, but they love doing chores.) I use to write the chores down on paper and when they were done they would cross it off. It worked, but it was not my favorite chore system. I have seen lots of chore boards where they list a chore and then you put a name under it. I didn't want that either. I wanted a system where I could put all different things for them to do like, "Do something nice for someone", or "Brush your Teeth"... This system should be great for my little overachievers. :) When someone is done with their task they will simple flip it over and put it on the done hook at the end.

Supply List:
-1x8x24 inch wood board or MDF
-Paint
-Vinyl from Vinylgiftsandmore.com
-Craft paint
-Little hooks to hang the cards
-2 Picture frame hook to put on the back to hang it up.

1. Start with an 1x8x24 inch board. I only use MDF board now because it does not warp over time. Pine board can warp and twist. I just had the Home Depot cut my board for me.

2. Using craft paint, paint it any color you like. My house has a lot of dark red in it so that is the

color I chose.

3. Apply the vinyl to the board. We have step by step instructions on our website, http://vinylgiftsandmore.com/on how to apply vinyl.

4. Put the two picture frame hooks on the back. One on each side.

5. Screw in each hook under each name. The best way to do this, is to pre drill a hole and then screw the hooks in. I did it the long way, and didn't drill the holes and I had to use a lot of muscle to get all screws in.

I used Microsoft word and made these cute little cards. They are about the size of a business card. I printed them off on cute scrap booking paper so the backing would look cute. Then I took them down and got them laminated. My sweet husband cut them all out while I was gone to the store, because he saw the card "Do something nice for someone" and so he did. Hole punch the tops and you are in business. If you buy the vinyl from us we will give you the pdf files of all my chore cards for free.

Now you and I will have perfect kids and a nice clean house. Dreaming right, but this is start.

We had an order for an Enrichment activity and they wanted the "I love to see the temple..." vinyl for the glass block. Normally my orders for this graphic are all white, because temples are white, but this order came in many different colors. I think they ordered almost every color we have. It was actually really fun to see this graphic in color. I love the red the best, but my favorite color is Red. This is such a fun nightlight in a child's room.

Picket Fence Table Topper

I was asked by my church if I would decorate for our big stake women's conference. For those who have never heard of women's conference, it is a big deal and it always looks perfect. Too perfect. I was overwhelmed and excited at the same time. I was given a plate with tulips on it, and they wanted me to match my decorations around it. Oh, and the kicker was my budget was tiny. I had to come up with something pretty for nothing, well, almost nothing.

There was a lady in my church that lives on land and she has a pile of old wood. She told me I could have whatever I needed. I was thrilled, but I had no idea what I was going to do. Then I went through a craft store and saw a picket fence. Picket fences and tulips go well together.

I found some old 1x8 pieces and cut them into little rectangles. They almost looked like squares, but one side was a little longer.

Then I found some 1x2 boards. I cut them 5 inches high with my chop saw.

I used my band saw to cut the tops. You can use a scroll saw or jig saw.

Then I used a brad nailer (I bought a nail gun for my birthday. I am so weird) to attach them.

I have to make 18 of these. My neighbor came out and he said it looks like a torture bed.

I then painted it with white craft paint. I just used one coat so the rustic wood would show through. I glued a ribbon around it with a glue gun. I wanted to use real tulips but I live in the desert and it cost 5.50 for each tulip here, so I went to the dollar store and bought these. Because I used fake flowers I put rocks in my mason jar to cover up the plastic stem. I thought they turned out cute.

I know this is not a vinyl craft, but I am really exited about it. I will share how to make this table center piece tomorrow. I also wanted to let you all know that I am turning my vinyl craft blog into a craft blog. I have fun ideas that I never share because they don't have vinyl on it. Another change I am making to my blog is that I am going to invite others to share their ideas too. So if you have any fun craft ideas I would love to see them.
